  • BACK PAIN

    A national scourge. The causes for this symptom are varied: Lumbago, a trapped nerve, myositis, a dislocated disc, bone fracture, curvature of the spine, infections, and cancer, but also inactivity.
  • BACTERIAL INFECTIONS IN GENERAL

    Can cause inflammation and diseases of varying degree depending on the type of bacteria and the infected person's resistance to the disease. Typical types of bacteria include coli, campylobacci, legionella, listeria, salmonella etc.
  • BALDNESS

    May be caused by age, nutritional deficiencies, fungal infection, medical drugs, poisoning, metabolic disorders, or hormonal disturbances, but may also be caused by an inherited hypersensitivity to the male sex hormone, dihydrotestosterone.
  • BEDWETTING

    Bedwetting in the nighttime may be hereditary, or caused by a small bladder, hormone disturbances that cause large nightly diureses, food allergies and/or lack of nourishment.
  • BEE- AND WASP STINGS

    Bee and wasp stings can trigger allergic reactions in some people. The symptoms range from pain and swelling to respiratory problems and -collapse.
  • BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERTROPHY

    Problems with the prostate is a characteristic suffering in many men. The gland - the size of a walnut - surrounds the urethra just below the bladder. The most common suffering is an enlarged prostate; hypertrophy of the prostate gland.
  • BLOOD CLOTS IN GENERAL

    Also known as thrombi. Are caused by accumulation of coagulated blood, atherosclerosis, fat, air bubbles, or foreign bodies which block the flow of blood in a vessel. Blood clots can travel from their place of origin to other locations in the body.
  • BLOOD PARASITES

    Microscopical animals e.g. worms, amoebas, and mites can find their way into the intestines, bloodstream, liver, or central nervous system and breed there. Parasites are involved in a number of serious diseases, e.g. malaria and sleeping sickness.
  • BLOOD POISONING

    A localized physical condition characterized by warmth, swelling, reddening, and usually also pain. The inflammation can be cause by an infection with microorganisms or a strain caused by sustained one-sided labour.
  • BLOOD PRESSURE PROBLEMS

    Blood pressure often increases with age. However, a 70-year-old can avoid getting a highly increased blood pressure compared to a normal youth blood pressure of 120/80 - particularly if he/she does not smoke, keeps to a healthy diet, and manages stress.
  • BREAST CANCER

    Breast cancer is a type of tumour which often forms in the lactiferous ducts or in the milk-secreting glands. The disease occurs almost exclusively in women but can also be seen in men.
  • BRONCHITIS AND ASTHMATIC BRONCHITIS

    Bronchitis is an inflammation caused by microorganisms or other irritants attacking the mucous membranes of the bronchi. It is often temporary, but can develop into chronic bronchitis.
  • BULIMIA

    Bulimia is a morbid fear of becoming fat and a distorted self-image often associated with anorexia. In the illness, uncontrolled episodes of binging are followed by self-induced vomiting, purging, or use of diuretics.
  • BURNS

    Various forms of tissue damage. Can be caused by outer affections from blows, pressure, stinges, burns, radiation, or cauterization or it can be the result of various diseases or states of deprivation.
  • BUZZING AND HISSING IN THE EARS

    Perception of disturbing sound which does not come from an exterior source. Tinnitus originates from the inner ear or from the hearing centre of the brain.
